There is no current legal definition for the term "natural" when talking about skin care products & cosmetics. Companies have their own in-house definitions for words like botanical, pure, organic & natural, as a result we as consumers are at the mercy of the manufacturers. Companies dedicate huge marketing budgets to promote the natural aspects of their products using terms such as natural & organic, leading to confusion among consumers and making it hard to choose the right products. The most important aspect to focus on when purchasing skin care products & cosmetics is the list of ingredients, become aware of common chemicals that should be of concern.

Many companies will list botanicals on the label of a product when there is only one or two drops of a highly processed herb extract or what they might call "organic" ingredients, this is known in the cosmetic trade as "window dressing", this tactic is used to distract you from all of the chemicals that are in their products. Skin care and cosmetic companies know you're busy and they're betting that you won't take the time to read through the entire list of ingredients. Be a smart consumer educate yourself and take the time to know what you are putting on and in your body. It is your body and your health.
