What is Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)?
PEG's are mixed with fatty acids and fatty alcohols to create a variety of substances that have diverse functions in cosmetics. Used as an emollient (which help to soften and lubricate the skin), as emulsifiers (which help water-based and oil-based ingredients to mix properly), and as vehicles that help deliver other ingredients deeper into the skin.

• Health Concerns:
- Contamination concern with 1,4-dioxane (a carcinogen)
- Contamination concern with ethylene oxide (a carcinogen)
- Contamination concern with PAH's (increase risk of breast cancer)
- Penetration enhancing effects can be of concern if the skin is damaged
- Irritation of skin
