Selenium Sulfide is an inorganic salt consisting of selenium and sulfur, used as an antidandruff and conditioning agent for hair.

Selenium is a naturally occurring substance that is toxic at high concentrations. Short term exposure of selenuium dioxide through inhalation results in repiratory effects, such as irritation of the mucous membranes, pulmonary edema, severe bronchitis and bronchial pneumonia. Studies of long term exposure to high levels of selenium have reported discoloration of the skin, pathological deformation and loss of nails, hair and excessive tooth decay and discoloration along with lack of mental alertness. The EPA has classified the element Selenium Sulfide as a probable human carcinogen.
